Safe Streets Act Update (pdf)
The Safe Streets Coalition is an association of over 60 community groups, business associations and local governments who support provincial legislation and government policy aimed at enhancing community safety for all British Columbians and visitors to BC.

Launched in March 2004, the primary goal of the Safe Streets Coalition was to persuade the provincial government to create legislation to address the increased disorder on local community streets.

In October 2004, the government introduced a provincial Safe Streets Act and Trespass Amendment Act in response to communities across the province expressing concerns about aggressive, disorderly street behaviour. The government's swift action in passing a provincial Safe Streets Act and Trespass Amendment Act was a direct result of the tremendous support received from Coalition members.

The Safe Streets Coalition is now working to ensure the successful implementation of the new legislation. We continue to be committed to measures that address the root causes of crime and aggressive behaviour that characterize the disorder on our streets, as well as the need for services to help the disadvantaged and the poor.
